Y. Shira Kresch OD, MS, FAAO specializes in the medical management of glaucoma as well as specialty contact lens fittings. After obtaining her BS in Nutrition and Food Science from Wayne State University Honors College with a co-major in University Honors on a full presidential scholarship, she graduated from SUNY College of Optometry's dual OD/MS program. Dr. Kresch went on to complete her residency in primary eye care and ocular disease at the NY VA Harbor Healthcare System. Following residency, Dr. Kresch worked alongside Dr. Jeffrey Liebmann and Dr. Jack Cioffi in the tertiary care glaucoma service of Columbia University Irving Medical Center where she served as Instructor of Optometric Sciences in Ophthalmology. She is the Chair of the Academic Optometry SIG of the American Academy of Optometry which is the product of the Academic Optometry Society that she founded in 2018. Dr. Kresch moved back to her hometown in Michigan where she became the Director of Optometry at Kresge Eye Institute and Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Kresch is now the proud owner of her cold-start private practice called Michigan Contact Lens since the summer of 2023. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Kresch pursues research in the areas of early detection of glaucoma, technological advances in patient education and tele-ophthalmology.
